77 runners and walkers participated in OCES’ annual 5K “Moving Heels for Meals on Wheels” held on April 2, 2017. The event raised over $6,000. The field was supported by OCES employee volunteers who helped hand out commemorative T-shirts and Swag Bags as the runners arrived at the Silver Lake Regional Middle School starting line. The volunteers then lined the race course offering water, encouragement and directions. Runners were cheered on as each crossed the finish line. Many OCES staff members participated and everyone who attended voiced strong support for Meals on Wheels.
The day was cool and a bit cloudy, but after the rain, snow and sleet the day before, the absence of precipitation was welcomed.
The overall first place finisher in the men’s categories was Brian Lamoureux at 19 minutes and 34 seconds. Women’s first place finisher overall was Jennifer Cazeault at 24 minutes 12 seconds. Our youngest runner, Zane Johnson, age 14, finished the race in an impressive 26 minutes 18 seconds.
