On the evening of June 5, 2019 a group of over 100 individuals gathered to celebrate the accomplishments of many Brockton-area employees and residents at the Community Services of Greater Brockton Celebrating Community Champions Annual Awards Dinner. The event took place at Generations Banquet Hall in Avon, MA and included an evening of food, dance and celebrating the award winners.

OCES was happy to not only be a sponsor of this event, but also have two award recipients!

Christopher Haggerty is a Transitions Coordinator at OCES and was awarded the “Excellence in Human Services Award”. Chris’ primarily role with OCES is to work with consumers in the community to help them identify ways to remain safe and independent in their current setting- often times avoiding a nursing facility placement. One of Chris’ greatest strengths is his ability to empower the individuals he works with. Chris provides the necessary support and resources to allow an individual to feel in charge of their own choices and make informed decisions about their next steps. One individual commented that, “Chris is showing me the way”, while another stated that Chris “helped their mother avoid being placed in a nursing home.” OCES is lucky to have Chris as part of our staff and the greater Brockton Community is lucky to have Chris working alongside them.

Margaret “Peg” Scott is a volunteer with OCES and was awarded the, “Excellence in Volunteer Services Award”. Peg retired a few years ago and has since filled her time with volunteering. She joined the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of Plymouth County which provides volunteers age 55 or older with a variety of opportunities to enhance their communities. Peg volunteers weekly at OCES and is always willing to give additional time to help out with special projects. Volunteering is about helping others and serving as an integral part of strengthening communities which Peg does with her dedicated, positive, effective and enthusiastic manner. As a volunteer, Peg inspires by example!

Congratulations to Chris and Peg!
