Runners and walkers shrugged off a light intermittent rain as they participated in the Third Annual “Moving Heels for Meals on Wheels” 5K on April 29, 2018. The race course began and ended at Silver Lake Regional Middle School in Kingston.
All funds raised will support our vital Meals on Wheels program, part of the OCES Nutrition Program. OCES delivers 1,600 meals a day to recipients in our service area. These “Meals on Wheels” are planned by a nutritionist, and with the help of hundreds of volunteers, are delivered either to individual homes or to Community Dining Sites, which provide older adults opportunities for social interaction.
The early morning showers cleared by the end of the race. Participants were treated to snacks, a swag bag filled with useful items, and cupcakes to enjoy on the spot, or take home, in celebration of OCES’ 44th anniversary. “We are so grateful to all our sponsors, volunteers, and participants for supporting our 5K and Meals on Wheels,” said Christine McLaren, OCES’ Community Programs Director. “It was especially meaningful to run on April 29th, the exact anniversary date of OCES’ founding. We are delighted with the turnout, and we look forward to seeing you next year for our 4th Annual 5K on April 28, 2019.”
The overall winner of the race was Cole Guiliani of Plymouth coming in at 21:17:97. Cole is 13 years old and has a bright running future ahead of him. Best time for a runner, female, was Jenny Raymond of Kingston at 27:30:65. Awards were presented in multiple categories and the full race results can be viewed at http://www.coolrunning.com/results/…/Apr29_3rdAnn_set1.shtml
Many members of the OCES team walked, ran, volunteered at the event and helped make it an enjoyable experience for everyone who attended.
