On Friday, State Auditor Suzanne Bump released her performance audit of Old Colony Elder Services based in Brockton. The nonprofit, which serves the elders and individuals with disabilities, receives nearly $20 million of its $34 million in annual revenue from state contracts. The auditor’s office is charged with ensuring it is well run.

The report was blessedly brief and free of any criticism. In other words, the good people at Old Colony Elder Services are serving our region’s most vulnerable neighbors efficiently and with integrity. Not all of the auditor’s reports present such sunny results.

Over the years, we’ve written many stories about the good works of Old Colony Elder Services – its Alzheimer’s support groups, its march to end elder abuse, an innovative food assistance program for pets of its clients. Its people – from the employees to the volunteers – constantly strive to recognize the needs of its clients and fulfill them.

We’re pleased to see Old Colony Elder Services receive the positive recognition it deserves.
