April 23-29, 2017 is National Volunteer Week. This week is an opportunity to recognize and thank the many individuals who give generously of their time and resources to a variety of causes they care about in the community. These volunteers are inspiring and lend their talent, voice and support without any expectation of compensation.

This week is also used to bring awareness to volunteer opportunities and to encourage more people to donate their time to a local, national, or global cause. There are a variety of volunteer opportunities for you. One example is to deliver meals on wheels during lunch time.

There are many volunteer opportunities available to allow people of all ages to volunteer. Volunteering can be a fun family event while working together to make a difference. The young will learn that volunteering contributes an invaluable service deserving of recognition, thanks and appreciation while sharing and creating memories together.

Volunteers come together to build stronger, more vibrant communities through their service and inspire others to volunteer. There are many benefits that come with volunteering. Volunteers feel a sense of joy and pride in serving others. Older adults who volunteer, feel a sense of purpose at a time when their social roles are changing.

Volunteers make a real difference in the community and experience a personally rewarding, feel-good experience. Service Unites, the theme for National Volunteer Week, captures the power of change makers to come together to build stronger, more vibrant communities through service.
